Portrait by Brent Lewin

About me and what I do:

My name is Elise von Kulmiz and I am a freelance documentary photographer, digital designer, archivist and writer.

Inspired by a desire for change and exploration, I recently left my hometown of Toronto and relocated to the southern Okanagan Valley in sunny, central British Columbia.

Having studied the craft of Photojournalism in college, I enjoy using my visual expertise to document our relationships with cuisine, the landscapes that nourish us and wildlife both domestic and feral. I continuously delve deeply into the oft-covered topic of wellness in everyday living. Travelog is second nature to me, with road adventure after road adventure poured into sliced-life tales and photographic journeys. I am driven to document and share these stories with the world.

I truly feel in my flow state when I am either creating documentation or conversing with all different kinds of folx. It is my belief that my experience in both hospitality and journalistic fields has given me a rare viewpoint on life, and my personal projects reflect this. Past photo essay topics have included: urban farming, creative events, and eco-friendly lifestyles.

I am currently seeking contract work and collaborations that tap into the unique perspective that I have to offer.

  • A woman smiling and laughing, holding a cocktail, as she arm wrestles someone. She is wearing a black beanie and a black and red vintage adidas jacket.
  • A woman wearing sunglasses and a sleeveless shirt with a wolf graphic stands behind a barrier in an urban alley with parked motorcycles on both sides and old buildings with air conditioning units and external stairs in Bangkok, Thailand.
